S.C. Tobi
Born and raised in Tampa FL, now residing in Nashville TN, (Steven Tobi) is best known as founding member and lead guitarist for the Alternative Rock group “The Nearly Deads”. While the band, musical side projects (TØBI) and composing for films (Fatherless, Virtually in Love, Eat Your Heart Out) make up the bulk of his credits, his passion for the creative arts spans to every corner of the field. Working with several up and coming directors in the independent film industry, he was encouraged to exercise his creativity by writing screen plays of his own. It was this new endeavor, unexpected life events and his love of science fiction and horror that inspired the creation of his debut novella (The Broken Man)
S. C. Tobi, the author carefully weaves a story that is dark and suspenseful with a horror that is unique. The horror James experiences are horrifying and will leave you, the listener, deeply affected. Her character development is well done. The plot twist is not only surprising but soul-damaging. The violence in this book is carefully presented but if you have experienced a violent loss, listen to this with care. It is more than an emotional roller coaster; it goes much deeper.

This is an interesting mind-challenging book that when the plot twist hits, you are not prepared. The other viewpoint it shares on grief and depression is relatable.
This book was awarded the Audiobook Reviewer’s Choice Award as it was deemed to deserve a higher than the standard five-star rating.

Following a tragic, life changing event, James is confronted by a malevolent and uninvited guest. While he desperately clings to what remains of his unraveling sanity, it becomes increasingly clear the intruder won’t be leaving anytime soon.
"There are a lot of surprising tone shifts here but in spite of the fact that by the end we may have begun to expect or to “normalize” these shifts, Tobi does manage to pull one last one off that produces a startling finale, one that the reader least would have expected." - S. Gaggi
"When I received my copy of this book, I read the 1st paragraph and it pulled me right in. I couldn’t put the book down. It’s a good story. It gives you chills and makes you wonder…." - Amazon Customer
"Dark subject matter, well written with great visualisation. You can really picture each scene as it's read. Can recommend, especially if you're a horror fan" - M
"One of the things that I enjoyed most about this book was the ambiguity in the story. It was clear from the beginning that something tragic had happened to James and his family, but it was unclear exactly what. Rather than telling the reader exactly what happened, the author gave the truth in bits and pieces. The story alternated between past, present, real, and imagined. Scenes shifted unexpectedly. A happy memory would transition into something much more sinister. A nightmarish scene would suddenly dissolve into a normal moment. All of this made it difficult to tell what was fact and what was fiction, which kept me intrigued throughout the story and even more curious to discover the truth. It also added to the underlying tension of the book, as I never knew what was coming next. I also liked how descriptive the book was. The author described things in a way that touched on all five senses and immersed the reader in the story."
